The Monk Prokhor of the Caves was a native of Smolensk and received tonsure at the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery from Hegumen John (1089 - 1103). He was a great ascetic in strict abstinence, who used swan instead of bread, for which he received the nickname "swan-maker". At the same time, no one has ever seen him sad
